Hurricane Katrina Pet Relief
We’ve all seen the heartbreaking images of stranded pets left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Ocean Breeze
Animal Hospital of Jensen Beach, in conjunction with the ASPCA, Noah’s Wish, and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine,
stepped in to bring some much needed relief to some of Katrina’s littlest victims..
Beginning September 9th and running through September 12th, Dr. Joseph Tomes and the team
at Ocean Breeze coordinated a Hurricane Pet Relief Drive, asking for donations of pet food, litter, bedding, water, and other
pet necessities. Filling the sixty-foot trailer donated by Armellini Transportation seemed like an insurmountable task, especially
with so many people on the Treasure Coast still recovering from last year’s hurricane season themselves.
But, with the generosity of local citizens, and with the support of PetSmart, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and other
area businesses, the trailer left for Baton Rouge late Monday evening of the 12th, filled to capacity with supplies
for animals of all kinds, as well as items for the animal care workers volunteering in the devastated area.
Dr. Tomes applies his practice philosophy to this worthwhile cause as well, "It’s all about the animals".
